What do we do?

Pelham Centre for the Environment is the ideal setting in which to explore and investigate the environment. Qualiflied teaching staff have developed a wide range of activities for Key Stages 1-3 that not only teach children about the environment but are also linked to the National Curriculum, and most importantly are FUN!

With no set menu of activities the staff at the centre are able to design a programme specifically for each visiting group, appropriate to age and ability, including pupils with learning difficulties.

Being cross-curricular, environmnetal education integrates a number of subject areas including numeracy and literacy as well as Geography and Science. Orienteering, problem solving and scavenger hunts are just some of the activities that link well into teaching numeracy, while sensory work, exploration and literacy trails are an excellent stimulus for language work. However, visits can focus on particular aspects of the National Curriculum if desired e.g. QCA modules in Science and Geography. INSET courses on many aspects of the Curriculum are also available.

Extra Curricular Activities!

In addition to school groups, Pelham runs courses for special interest groups and the local community. Regular open days with special themes are held each year and 'Wild and Crafty', our out of school activity week is held each year.
