activity also encompasses log rolling, pond
dipping, meadow sweeping, tree
beating and leaf litter investigations (for more information on these
activities please see their individual descriptions).
Identifying a variety of animals and plants in their natural habitat allows pupils to become familiar with most commonly encountered species, as well as numerous rare species of plants found at Pelham (orchids in particular). Recordings of plant and animal species can then be investigated further with reference to food chains, life cycles, adaptations, habitat preferences and requirements and survival techniques. Pupils also learn of the different plant and animal families and their main characteristics. |
