Sensory work

Sensory work at Pelham helps pupils to develop their skills in observation and to distinguish between different smells, sounds and textures. The butterfly garden also doubles as a sensory garden and many herbs and other plants have been introduced to this area specifically for sensory work. Pupils may be asked to make 'colour catchers', 'smelly pots' or 'feely boxes' to identify the differences between colours, smells and textures.

This is a fun activity for young children and allows them to explore their vocabulary in describing the differences between items in their collections.
