Electricity Studies
With the National Grid Transco substation close to hand the resources available for studying electricity generation and distribution are plentiful. Pupils learn of the different types of electricity with the use of small-scale models and actual pieces of equipment used on pylons and in underground transportation systems. Following an introduction to the fundamentals of electricity generation, transformation and distribution inside the classroom pupils are then taken outdoors to identify the main features of the pylon and substation site.
