South Pond
This pond was created in 1984 and is now thriving. Aquatic plants were introduced into the water and numerous trees and bushes were planted around the pond to provide cover for birds. Now rich in aquatic invertebrates, the pond is a valuable teaching resource, and with two winter and two summer dipping platforms can be used all year round. Spectacular species can be found here such as dragonflies, damselflies and caddis fly larvae. In the spring there are also newts, frogs and toads. The great crested newt has also been recorded here and in the other ponds around the reserve.
