Moat Pond

This pond is all that remains of a much larger moat that protected the original manor houseand was part of the stockade around Stocking Pelham. Many years ago the pond would have been stocked with fish for the Lord of the Manor. However, it no longer contains fish and with its small jetty is an ideal spot for pond dipping.

The pond has gradually filled up with mud from the drainage ditches and debris from the overhanging elm trees and is well shaded, making it a valued contrast to the other ponds on the reserve.

Little Moat Pond
Also used for pond dipping, Little Moat Pond branches off Moat Pond and is contrasting in its position. This smaller pond is well-lit and surrounded by elm, hawthorn and bramble. Rigid hornwort, greater spearwort, starwort and false fox sedge are also commonly found here.
