During the spring
this grassland is covered with cowslips. Cowslip meadows are now considered
to be quite rare as the grasslands have been ploughed over to make way for
farmland. However, due to careful management cowslips are abundant in this
area and it is a haven for many other plant species. Pyramidal orchids, common
broomrape, knapweed, ox-eye daisy and primrose are just a few of the flowers
that may be seen when the field bursts into a sea of colour. The variety of
flowers inturn encourages an array of butterflies including
the Essex Skipper, Meadow Brown and the Painted Lady. |
