Yellow Rattle Meadow

This area supports a wide variety of wildflowers. During late May and June there is a spectacular display of yellow rattle (Rhinanthus minor), a rare species in Essex. It is semi-parasitic, taking much of its nutrients from grasses and other plants. Also to be found here are bee orchids, ragged robin, field scabious, self-heal and hairy tare.

From the Yellow Rattle Meadow, on a clear day, you can see the church tower in Sudbury across the flood plain of the River Stour.
