Pelham
Centre for the Environment has over 30 years experience of delivering environmental
education. It operates in partnership with National Grid, Essex and Hertfordshire
County Councils and the Essex Wildlife Trust. It is situated on National
Grid's Stocking Pelham substation site in the centre of 28 acres of former
farmland now designated as a nature reserve.
The substation, which helps to control the flow of electricity
to the national grid, is located on the Essex, Hertfordshire County border,
8 miles from Bishops Stortford with easy access to the A10 and M11.
Pelham Centre for the Environment provides an ideal setting
to explore and investigate the environment. A wide range of activities are
continuually being developed for schools, special interest groups and the
local community.
Pelham Centre for the Environment is one of the twelve
environmnetal education centres located on National Grid substation sites
in England and Wales.
It is also part of the network of Hertfordshire Outdoors
and Essex Outdoors centres. The teachers who work at the Daws Hall Centre
also operate at Pelham.
